Safety is important to us, please come with the mindset to make safety important to you.
Each class is composed of both classroom time and range time. We do not allow student owned firearms in the classroom. Range Day and One on One student / instructor training takes place on the range and student owned firearms are allowed.>
Handicap Access: Please contact us if you have physical limitations that impact your ability to travel up and down stairs. Some of our ranges are 100% handicap accessible, and some that will provide access challenges. Please contact us and we can help you decide the best location for your training.
If your interest lies in acquiring firearms training to apply for Ohio's Carry Concealed Permit, the Personal Protection in the Home is the course that we recommend. The Personal Protection meets and exceeds the minimum standards (as they are currently written both the Ohio House and Ohio Senate version) of House Bill 12 and gives the student additional information in the event that they are involved in a firearm incident.
As a reminder, the successful completion of this course results in a certificate of completion. This is the document that you will provide to your county sheriff’s department.
The 12-14 hour personal protection course is a two day event which will teach or refresh your skills in handling a firearm, and in addition will instruct you in firearm responsibility, basic defensive handgun skills, the law and deadly force, defensive strategies within your home, and selecting a handgun for self defense. Although this course has been developed for a variety of skill levels, ALL shooters must meet minimum firearms standards. It is recommended that you have either taken a basic pistol class or have prior shooting experience.
You must know and follow the three fundamental rules of safe gun handling and to confidently demonstrate the proper loading, cocking, un-cocking and unloading procedures with a pistol and DUMMY (or unloaded brass only) cartridges prior to the start of the course. Please let us know in advance if you are at a beginning level and we will send you a home study sheet to review. Failure to meet these minimum standards will result in your inability to complete the course. If you are unsure that your firearms skills meet these minimum standards, please consider a basic or FIRST Step pistol course in advance.
This is a NRA certified course, where a certain level of competence IS expected at the completion of the course to receive your certification. The issuing of the certificate will be based on student knowledge, skill and overall attitude demonstrated over the length of the course.
